- Job Summary The Privacy Counsel role is broad, and among other things, involves advising clients on various legal risks and obligations under global privacy laws and driving cross-functional initiatives across the business involving a variety of privacy and data protection related legal, operational and compliance issues. Further, the Privacy Counsel will provide ongoing support to the Director of Data Privacy Strategy and the ResMed Legal Team on various regional and global privacy initiatives throughout the business. Let’s talk about Responsibilities 1. Work as part of a cross-functional team delivering best in class privacy and data protection counselling to ResMed’s digital health technology organization, product development and commercial business teams to ensure our products, services, platforms and technology delivered by those teams are in compliance with applicable data protection laws and incorporate privacy by design industry best practices 2. Analyze products, policies and initiatives to provide practical legal assessments of risk across multiple jurisdictions 3. Build and maintain scalable and effective processes for providing legal input to clients and standards for strategic initiatives related to core infrastructure, privacy by design, data governance, machine learning and cross-functional projects 4. Collaborate with the legal team and other data privacy teams to ensure we offer consistent guidance on key areas that cross the organization such as data governance, data retention and deletion, anonymization/pseudonymization of data, cross-border data transfers, data security, privacy by design and machine learning 5. Help evaluate the impact of evolving legislative and regulatory environments for data protection on ResMed’s various business teams and stay up to date on relevant international laws and regulations, especially those related to cybersecurity, machine learning, privacy, data governance and other applicable areas 6. Contribute to and provide data protection and data governance guides and training to legal and privacy team members, business clients and cross-functional stakeholders on how our core products, systems and infrastructure work and how we think about relevant data protection laws and regulations with respect to those core products, systems and infrastructure 7. Support privacy due diligence and data protection related matters as part of M&A activity and post M&A integration Let’s talk about Qualifications and Experience 1. 5+ or more years of relevant privacy law and/or data technology or data security experience, including at a law firm and/or prior in-house experience preferably in the digital space, the medical device industry and/or technology sector 2. A law degree and good standing in a bar association or equivalent 3. Strong knowledge and experience of privacy laws and data protection frameworks – namely, EU GDPR principles and/or Asia-Pacific privacy laws, sound understanding of China’s data protection and cybersecurity regulatory regime is a plus 4. Exceptional communication and project management skills, including a strong desire and ability to make complex topics understandable for various audiences 5. Customer service focused with excellent analytical and problem resolution skills. Solution-oriented with the ability to think strategically and give practical advice by balancing business needs with legal risks. 6. Interest in national and international privacy developments, international privacy guidelines and privacy by design 7. One or more certifications from recognized institutions for example, IAPP’s Certified Information Privacy 8. Professional (CIPP) certifications or equivalent is preferred
